I’m thoroughly enjoying the new Urban Outfitters homeware collection this season. It seems that they have just launched some online exclusives including this fab button-backed velvet sofa bed, a real hero piece. Oh yes, that’s right, the Ava Sleeper (pictured below) folds down to create a nifty little place to sleep. Who knew sofa beds could be so glamorous? Available in three colours (moss, charcoal and plum) and priced £750, I think it’s rather a bargain and would create quite the focal point in any living room.
The photography is very stylised, tapping into the vintage mix-and-match interiors trend that is very of the moment. I’m personally not very keen on the wooden ply-board walls which make the set but I’m sure they will appeal to their young customer base who like the makeshift urban look. The actual product however looks pretty decent, a bit like the Made range. Much of the furniture has a mid century / retro feel. There is a collection of sprayed metal side tables and storage racks with a vintage industrial look, Eames-style chairs, and a wooden coffee table, chest of drawers and writing desk with tapered legs and block colour drawers, a real nod to the 60s.
Elsewhere in the range accessories channel a cool vintage vibe. Lighting includes some glass pendant shades and retro desk lamps and there are some great geometric patterned rugs and bedding. It really seems that are upping their game in the homeware stakes and trying to appeal to young adults who want that vintage retro look in the home but don’t have the time to scour vintage shops or ebay to get it. Although not super expensive it’s not Ikea prices and the test will be whether they are willing to part with their cash for this very stylised home range.
